Shubh Mangal Saavdhan One Line Review:
How a man’s sexual problem becomes a cause of discord between his and his would be in-laws’ family is what the film revolves around.
Positive Points: Endearing characters brought to life by an amazing cast, brilliant direction and oodles of belly-buster dialogues.
Negative Points: The climax could have been better.
Shubh Mangal Saavdhan Plot Review:
Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is a story of two middle-class individuals Mudit ( Ayushmann Khurrana ) and Sugandha ( Bhumi Pednekar ) and their families. Mudit, who works in a private company, likes Sugandha but does not have guts to profess his feelings for her. Sugandha knows about his feelings but wants him to initiate because he is a boy. When Mudit fails to confess his love in the real world, he decides to take the help of the virtual world and sends a marriage proposal to Sugandha’s family through a matrimonial site.
Their families happily fix their marriage and it seems to be a happy ending for them. But little did Mudit knows that his problem of erectile dysfunction is going to wreak havoc on his marriage. When one night he tries to make out with Sugandha in the absence of her family, he just fails to perform. Distressed and dismayed, Mudit shares his problem with her. Sugandha cooperates and decides to marry him despite knowing his personal problem. But soon their respective families come to know about the whole issue and a blame game starts, leading to several comic as well as emotional situations. So, will their families let them marry each other? What will happen when everyone comes to know about Mudit’s problem? Will Sugandha remain his support till the end? To know, watch the film in the theatre nearest you.
Shubh Mangal Saavdhan Performance Review:
What makes Shubh Mangal Saavdhan a must watch is its supremely talented star cast that has delivered fabulous performances. Actor Ayushmann Khurrana plays the male lead Mudit in the movie. Before writing anything about his performance in the film, I would like to say that he is an actor who delivers his hundred percent in every act. Just last week he won our hearts with his endearing performance in Bareilly Ki Barfi . He has been impressing the audience since his first release Vicky Donor . He does it again with Shubh Mangal Saavdhan . No matter whether his films go on to join any 100 crore club or not, with each film of his, he is proving to be a talent of high order. You will fall in love with his character from the word go. From playing a shy guy to becoming the man who stands for his love without kowtowing to any social pressure, he shows a graph that is applause worthy. With every film, he is proving his mettle like no one. Taking about Bhumi Pednekar , she is a revelation. It seems she has mastered the art of playing a middle-class girl with nonparail panach. In the role of Sugandha, she looks pitch perfect. She is a talent the audience would love to see more and more. Both Ayushmann and Bhumi have previously worked together in Dum Laga Ke Haisha , which marked latter’s acting debut in Bollywood. Their chemistry in their first film was amazing and the same can be said about their second outing as well. Their chemistry is the highlight of the movie. The whole supporting cast has also lent their full support to make Shubh Mangal Saavdhan an unmissable affair.
Shubh Mangal Saavdhan Direction Review:
Filmmaker R.S. Prasanna , who directs films down south, is making his Bollywood debut with Shubh Mangal Saavdhan . The movie is the Hindi remake of his Tamil directorial debut titled, Kalyana Samayal Saadham, which received an overwhelming response upon its release in 2013.
Prasanna seems to have toiled really hard in changing the setting of the film from south India to north India. Despite being the remake of a south Indian film, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan looks every bit fresh and original, not because the Hindi speaking audience may not have watched the Tamil film but because of its novel approach and a perfectly written screenplay.
Generally, when a south Indian filmmaker remakes his film own film for the Hindi audience, he/she does not change the feel and flavor of the original, thinking the film can replicate the same success in Bollywood also. But Prasanna doesn't fall for that temptation. He takes the basic idea from his Tamil film and color it with the hues of north Indianness. He makes an impressive debut in Bollywood with Shubh Mangal Saavdhan .
Shubh Mangal Saavdhan Technical Aspects Review:
Any good film is a result of team efforts. Shubh Mangal Saavdhan scores good marks in all departments as everyone seems to have give their hundred percent to the movie. A little bit issue is with its editing, though. At time, the pace of the film gets too slow, especially in the second half, which is the only problem that this film faces. Production value of the film is decent. Sets are very realistic as the film has been shot on real locations.
Shubh Mangal Saavdhan Music Review:
All tracks in the movie have been composed and written by Tanishk - Vayu . Surprisingly, all four songs break away from the mould and are fresh and engaging. The song ‘Rocket Saiyaan’ is a peppy number which one can like instantly. With a south Indian touch and melodious music, the next song Kanha is also quite hummable. The other two songs are also good. Overall, the album of the film is worth listening to.
Shubh Mangal Saavdhan Final Verdict:
Watch the film for the quirky comedy and crackling chemistry between the lead pair Bhumi Pednekar and Ayushmann Khurrana . It will entertain those people more who understand the nitty-gritty middle class family in modern India.
