Toilet: Ek Prem Katha One Line Review:

How a love-struck man wages a war against old and out-dated societal norms and customs to make a toilet in his home in order to get her wife back, who left him in absence of a toilet.

Positive Points: Real settings and impressive performances by the whole star cast make this film a must watch.

Negative Points: The second of the film is stretched. Climax seems hurried. It should have been more convincing.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha Plot Review:

Keshav ( Akshay Kumar ), a 36-years old man raring to get married, has many astrological problems in his kundali. To ward off some of the problems, his Orthodox father makes him marry a buffalo. As per his father, he can only marry a girl who has one extra thumb in her hand. But when Keshav meets an educated and modern girl Jaya ( Bhumi Pednekar ), love blossoms between them after a few meetings and both decide to get married. To convince his father that Jaya has one extra thumb, Keshav makes a fake one and coalesces it on Jaya’s hand. But right after the first night when Jaya comes to know that not just Keshav, but the whole village has no toilet, she decided to leave. Keshav convinces her a lot, but after a few days Jaya finally leaves his house and goes back to her parents. How Keshav fights with the whole village to make toilets and brings back his wife is what forms the crux of the story.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha Performances Review:

Nowadays, when you enter cinema halls to watch an Akshay Kumar film, you know your eyes will be feasted with a satisfying film. All the films that Akshay has chosen in the last few years ensured the audience about one thing that no matter what he will deliver the entertainment worth their money. Akshay keeps his promise once again with Toilet Ek Prem Katha . He yet again proves that when it comes to showing versatility through performances, there is no one in the industry who can hold a candle to him. Look at his filmography of late; all his films are not only different in genres, but also in style and treatment. His new offering too promises to be different. Akshay plays a character almost his age in the movie, and he convincingly nails it.

With his unrivalled acting skills he makes his character believable and lovable. The local language that he speaks in the film adds up to his performance. It seems the idiom “to get into the skin of the character” was coined just for Akshay Kumar . Actress Bhumi Pednekar , too, has performs so well that this film will be remembered as one of her best films in times to come. She nails her character magically. Like her first film Dum Laga Ke Haisha , she once again plays a girl from the countryside and wins your heart with her innocence.

Bhumi is born and brought up in Mumbai, but the way she carry her character, it makes it difficult to believe that she has never been to a small town ever. Her dedication is laudable. The best part about her role in the movie is that it is equally important and powerful as Akshay’s. In nutshell, in the character of Jaya, Bhumi leaves a lasting impression. In the role of Akshay’s younger brother, Divyendu Sharma does a good job. Veteran character artist Sudhir Pandey as the overtly orthodox father of Akshay is terrific. Other actors in the supporting cast have also delivered brilliant performances.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha Direction Review:

You don’t always need beautiful locations, inflated budgets and a complex story to make a good film. At times, a well-intentioned small idea can laid the foundation of a big and beautiful film. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha proves just that with no pomp and show.

To begin with, the film has a very simple story woven coherently around characters that look extraordinarily real. If you have ever spent some time in any village and paid an iota of attention towards how people there function, you will love the detailing of the film. Before I talk about the direction of the film, I would mention one thing that this movie passes with distinction marks as much for its writing as for its sterling performances and other aspects. Writers Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal, take a bow!

Talking about director Shree Narayan Singh , he deserves praises for keeping the film as simple as possible. There is nothing that looks over the top. There is nothing that does not look real. There is nothing that looks forced. The world he creates in his film seems thoroughly real and, most importantly, enjoyable. He talks about everything in his film – love, social issues, familial discordance, antediluvian mentality and prejudice, but he does not serve an overdose of it on the platter. All ingredients are in balanced quantity, something that makes this film a must watch.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha Music Review:

Toilet Ek Prem Katha has five songs in totality, and I am glad to say that after a long, long time there is an album which boasts of some really soulful music. The one song which you are not going to stop humming soon is ‘Hans Mat Pagli’. The dulcet voice of Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal makes it a must have on your playlist. The second song which you can also add in your playlist is ‘Gori Tu Latth Maar’, sung by Sonu Nigam and Palak Muchhal . Other songs are situational and flow well with the narrative.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha Technical Aspect Review:

The real locations of Mathura and adjoining villages lend a believability factor to the film. Anshuman Mahaley deftly captures the essence of small-town life with his camera. However, the film is marred by incompetent editing, especially in the second half.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha Final Verdict:

Currently, Akshay Kumar is the only Bollywood star who serves what he promises. When the trailer of the film was released, he promised a clean, entertaining film which one can enjoy with the whole family. He delivers on his promise. Now, it is your turn to flock the film with your family and enjoy your weekend.
