The riotous success of Pushpa: The Rise (2021) in the Hindi belt has surprised many. The film originally made in Telugu was also released in several other popular Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
The Hindi dubbed version of the big-ticket film has been doing phenomenal business ever since entering theatres on December 17 and is slowly inching towards the coveted ₹50 crore mark. This is indeed a great feat for a South Indian film releasing in COVID-19 times.
Pushpa: The Rise features Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil on the primary cast and all actors have been receiving great response for their terrific performances. At a post-release event for Pushpa, Allu Arjun thanked the audience in North India for showering so much love on the film. The actor also promised that the sequel to the film will get a wider release in maximum Indian languages.
“We were thinking that we want to release this film in Hindi, but we were not sure because we did not have the time to do publicity. We did not know how much of it will convert. I know there is a pulse, which I have been seeing for the last five years on YouTube,” Arjun said at the event.
Talking about how the Hindi dubbed versions of South Indian films garnering millions of views on YouTube made him wonder if the same people would go to theatres to watch their films. “Who are these people all over in the heartland of India who are watching these films? Are they only watching on satellite and YouTube? Or are they even going to come to the theatres?” he said.
The actor continued, “I somewhere had a belief that, you know, so many people are watching so they might come to the theatres. But we don't know for sure. As testing waters to see if the audience which I am seeing on YouTube and on satellite, which is humongous numbers, will they come to the theatres. I wanted to test waters with Pushpa and believe me thank you to the whole of North India, you proved we are just not going to love us through digital mediums but we will come physically to the theatres to admire you. Thank you so much for that. Thank you, every distributor of mine, for taking me into other languages.”
