'Adipurush' has been involved in a number of controversies since it opened in theatres on June 16, 2023. On Twitter, hashtags like 'Boycott Adipurush' and 'Adipurush Disaster' are popular. The 'Hindu Sena' has brought a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the movie in the Delhi High Court, stating that it makes fun of Lord Ram, the Ramayana, and Indian culture.
The movie is receiving a lot of criticism for departing from the Valmiki Ramayana, with Raavan having a lengthy beard and his eyes being filled with kajal, Hanuman Ji lacking a moustache, Meghnath sporting tattoos, and Bhagwan Ram dressed in white.

The fact that the producers made mistakes with the story even after stating the movie was based on the classic Ramayan has incensed the public. People have already commented on the appearance of Ravan in the first teaser, as well as the colours of the clothing worn by Bhagwan Ram and Mata Sita and Hanuman Ji's absent moustache.
Om Raut, the filmmaker, made a number of mistakes even after numerous revisions to the movie's teaser, poster and in the film.
