Before ultimately releasing on July 7 in theatres, Prithviraj Sukumaran's action thriller Kaduva (2022) encountered a number of obstacles. On the final day, the censor board granted the movie a U/A certificate, and it had completed all the requirements for theatre release. Despite all, the censor board recommended a significant alteration to the film Kaduva while also granting it a clearance certificate.

The censor board has reportedly advised the filmmakers to change the character's name, Kuruvachan, wherever it appears in the movie. According to the reports, the censor board has also confirmed that the movie cannot be described as the true narrative of the complainant Kuruvinakkunnel Kuruvachan and has made sure that there are no sequences that are derogatory about him or his family.

According to reports, writer Jinu V Abraham stated that there were no sequences in the movie that were shot with the intent of degrading Kuruvinakkunnel Kuruvachan. Furthermore, according to Jinu, not a single scene or line of conversation from the movie has been cut, even though there are minor alterations in the film as a result of censorship affecting the appearance of Prithviraj Sukumaran's character name.

For the uninitiated, Kaduva encountered a legal problem when Pala resident Kurvinakkunnel Kuruvachan filed a defamation complaint against the filmmakers, claiming that the movie contains various sequences that will tarnish his and his family's reputation. As a result, Kaduva's previously scheduled June 30 release date was moved up by a week. It was released on 7th July, 2022.
