Kamal Haasan on south films taking over Bollywood: Films don't have language

National Film Award-winning actor Kamal Haasan is presently busy promoting his upcoming film Vikram, which is set to hit cinemas on June 3. Just like Pushpa: The Rise (2021), RRR (2022), and KGF: Chapter 2 (2022), Vikram is also a pan-India film.

Ever since the riotous success of the aforementioned pan-India films, there has been constant discussion about south films doing better than Hindi films and succeeding in touching the right chord of the audience.

During an interaction with the media in Mumbai when Haasan was asked about the same, he said, “Film speaks a world language, we are a country with such diversity but fantastic unity. We as a country don’t speak a language but sing the national anthem with pride. I have seen this since my childhood. There is one sensibility that unites us all, we are living it. Film takes in part, does its duty in uniting people. This is the only place you don't check the cast and status of the next man sitting in the cinema hall. It is not a South film that is succeeding, it's an Indian film succeeding. That's always better than a Hollywood film succeeding. Mughal Ae Azam (1960), Sholay (1975) and so many others have seen national. Mughal Ae Azam is not just intelligence, it's guts. It took decades to make the film. We should respect each other. Films don’t have language.”

Directed by Lokesh Kangaraj and backed up by Haasan's production, Raaj Kamal Films International, Vikram also stars Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil in lead roles. The film releases on June 3.
