Karthi calls Ponniyin Selvan a ‘dream’ as the first song of the film Ponni Nadhi is unveiled

At a lavish premiere ceremony on Sunday night, the first single from Mani Ratnam's monumental work Ponniyin Selvan I —Ponni Nadhi— was unveiled. Karthi, Jayam Ravi, and Jayaram were in attendance at the launch. Karthi disclosed during his moving address that Mani Ratnam completed filming for both parts of the movie in less than 120 days. Talking about the film, the star said, "Working on this film has been like a dream." Karthi began his speech with his famous lines, "Enna mama sowkiyama."

On the other hand, during his speech at the grand launch event today, Jayam Ravi said, "Tamil Makkal have a good cinema sense to appreciate even a good shot. This is something very unique about our audience. Ponniyin Selvan is a novel that is deeply embedded in the hearts and minds of every Tamilian who has read it. I’m delighted to be a part of this creation,"

The accompanying lyrical video provided snippets of both the broad scope and specific scenes from the movie. However, the song's composition and the fact that Mani and composer AR Rahman were reunited caught the attention of the audience more than anything else. In the song, he is portrayed as Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan, riding a horse by VeeraNarayana Lake. It is where the narrative begins. Karthi shared the song on his social media handle and wrote, "When I heard this song for the very first time, I felt as if I was riding into the Chola Kingdom! Pure magic! Join me in this journey.".

Ponniyin Selvan, based on the eponymous epic novel by Kalki, has been produced by Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies. Lyca Productions will be releasing the film. The first part will be released in cinemas worldwide on September 30. Apart from Karthi, it also stars Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, and Trisha. The film is a historical epic set in medieval times and focuses on king Raja Raja Cholan, also called Ponniyin Selvan.
