Vijay Deverakonda actively promoted his film Liger directed by Puri Jagannadh but the film failed to impress the audience and failed at the box office. Not just in the Telugu states, but also all over India, the movie teasers and trailers had generated a lot of buzz. Through advertisements, the directors also created a stir across the nation, raising anticipation for the movie. The movie debuted to standing ovations, giving Vijay his greatest opening to date. The movie quickly lost steam since it failed to live up to critics' and viewers' expectations.

He appeared in the film opposite Ananya Panday and played the role of an MMA fighter from the slums. For his character, VD had done months of prepping for his physiques and learning MMA. The actor recently posted a video clip of his training session from his shoot days and his caption is something to make a note of.
Meantime, Vijay has another film titled Yashoda with Samantha Ruth Prabhu which is a completely new pairing. He also has Jana Gana Mana directed by Puri Jagannadh and produced by Charmee Kaur
