On Saturday, the makers of the Mani Ratnam extravaganza 'Ponniyin Selvan: 2' released the second song, 'Veera Raja Veera'. The song, which features Karthi, Trisha, and Sobhita Dhulipala and was composed by Oscar and Grammy winner A.R. Rahman, is set to images of warships at sea. It is based on a Shiva Stuti from the Dagarvani school of Dhrupad, specifically the raga Adaana.

The veena and tabla provide a pleasant accompaniment to the murkiyaan sung by Kavita Krishnamurti, Shreya Ghoshal, and Arman Dehlvi in Veera Raja Veera. Gulzar, who has previously delivered knockout albums with AR Rahman for 'Guru,' 'Dil Se..,' and 'Saathiya,' among other such notable films, has written the Hindi lyrics for Mani Ratnam's Veera Raja Veera.
Directed by Mani Ratnam, winner of the National Award for Best Director, 'Ponniyin Selvan: 2' is the sequel to 'PS-1', the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2022.
Films in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada adaptations of Kalki Krishnamurthy's classic Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan will premiere on theatre screens around the world on April 28, 2023.
