Actor Raveena Tandon believes the South cinema industry has thrived because it has remained faithful to its culture and history. However, the Hindi film industry has failed as a result of its drive to "westernize" everything. In a new interview, the actor discussed her experiences working in the South alongside stars like as Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi, and Nagarjuna.
While speaking to Rajshri Unplugged, Raveena reaffirmed the already common opinion that the South film business is considerably more disciplined than the Hindi film industry. Another significant difference she sees affecting the performance of Hindi films is a failing to keep connected to its roots.

"What I enjoyed a lot about the South industry was that they were so deeply connected to their roots and culture that their films were super-duper hits," she remarked. "They don't create many elitist films. That, I believe, is what works. In Mumbai, they adhered to the westernized culture. They began producing DVD copies of movies that were not selling well in Mumbai. So, it was critical that we stayed in touch with what our people wanted. This is something I learnt from the South Industry."- she added.
Raveena made her debut in the Telugu film business with ‘Bangaru Bullodu’ in 1993, while her debut in the Tamil film industry was with ‘Sadhu’ in 1994. She was most recently seen in the Kannada blockbuster ‘K.G.F: Chapter 2.’
The actress also stated that in the South, she was allowed to eat anything she wanted because the producers didn't worry if she gained weight. She needed to reduce those additional pounds after returning to Mumbai.
Raveena explained, “When I used to come to Bombay (Mumbai), everyone used to say that I’ve put on weight. When I used to go to the South, they used to be like why have you lost weight? Eat a lot. So, I used to enjoy it a lot. I used to leave dieting and eat idli, dosa and coconut chutney in abundance.”
The actor also claimed that she was unsure about acting in the 2022 film ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ when director Prashanth Neel approached her with the opportunity following the release of ‘KGF: Chapter 1.’ She wanted to be certain about her role and suggested Neel to use her as a body double in the film.
Raveena spoke, “When Prashanth had come for ‘KGF 1’, most of the script of ‘KGF 2’ was not ready. There were only few scenes (of Raveena) in ‘KGF 1’, so I was not sure if I would do ‘KGF 2’ or not. That’s why I told Prashanth that let ‘KGF 1’ get done and use my body double. When your script for ‘KGF 2’ will be ready, I’m on. ‘KGF 1’ got released and they used my body double, they didn’t show anyone’s face. Prashanth was very sure of what he wanted.”
