With the success of the film Vikram (2022), starring Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil, Lokesh Kanagaraj has quickly risen to the top directors of the film industry. Despite being accessible on the OTT platform Disney+Hotstar as well, the movie continues to draw viewers to theatres in its eighth week.
After their blockbuster hit Master was released in 2021, Lokesh is currently working on the preproduction for his upcoming film, Thalapathy 67, in which he would be reuniting with superstar Vijay for the second time. According to reports, Anirudh is the composer for the massive film, which is being produced by Seven Screen Studios' Lalit Kumar. In an earlier report, Samantha Ruth Prabhu was mentioned as playing the female protagonist opposite Vijay in #Thalapathy67.
However, according to the most recent reports, Samantha won't be portraying the female lead but rather the film's antagonist in the Lokesh Kanagaraj film. If reports are to be believed, Thalapathy Vijay will play a renowned gangster in his 40s in the film and the stunning actress would play a merciless cop.
Additionally, there are reports that #Thalapathy67 is linked to the director's past movies Kaithi (2019) and Vikram (2022) and is a part of the renowned Lokesh Cinematic Universe. According to sources close to the Lokesh Kanagaraj film, iconic actor Kamal Haasan and Lalith Kumar of Seven Screen Studio may also co-produce the film under the umbrella of their respective companies, Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) and Seven Screen Studio, respectively.
