SS Rajamouli’s Bahubali was considered a masterpiece worldwide and the film did break all the box-office records globally. SS Rajamouli had earlier revealed that shooting and making of the film took more than five years. In the meantime, another period film Ponniyin Selvan directed by Mani Ratnam is gearing up for release. The film stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, Chiyaan Vikram, and Jayam Ravi. The shooting for the film was done in just 150 days.
In a recent interview, Jayam Ravi revealed how SS Rajamouli reacted when he got to know about this. He said, “We completed two parts of Ponniyin Selvan in 150 days, I spoke about this to Rajamouli sir. Rajamouli sir stood up from his chair and begged Ravi not to terrify him by saying this. He said that he shot both parts of Bahubali over the course of five years. That demonstrates his regard for Mani Sir. Later, after sitting down, he inquired, "How do you work?" He is learning from the master.
Even Mani Ratnam was asked many times whether Ponniyin Selvan is similar to Bahubali. To this Mani Ratnam had said, "Subhashakran, the Ponniyins Selvan producer, asked me if the film would be similar to Baahubali. No, it won't be, I said. Later, he questioned whether it would resemble Padmaavat. I refused. Then he questioned how else it would be. I remarked that I intended to follow Amarar Kalki's writing.
Ponniyin Selvan I which is a period historical drama is an adaptation of the best seller of Kalki Krishnamurthy under the same name. Ponniyin Selvan’s second part will be released nine months right after the first part’s release. Ponniyin Selvan I will hit the big screens on September 30.
