‘Viduthalai’, the highly awaited social drama directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran, has been in the works for quite some time. The shooting of the film, which will be released in two parts, was recently completed. Following a lengthy wait, Vetrimaaran and his team have finally released the official trailer for ‘Viduthalai: Part 1’, which stars Soori as the protagonist and Vijay Sethupathi in an important role. Gautham Vasudev Menon, an actor-director, is also in the cast.
The film is a period crime thriller about a police operation to bring down the 'People's Army,' a bogus separatist group that has taken up guns and is hiding in a forest. The trailer for Part 1 shows the difficulties and sufferings of a cop, Kumaresan (Soori), who is only a cog in a massive system attempting to catch Perumal Vaathiyaar (Vijay Sethupathi). Perumal, the enigmatic leader of the People's Army, has declared war on the authorities for harassing and torturing the women of his hamlet. Kumaresan must go up against the system in order to make his imprint on the hunt for Perumal Vaathiyar, who is more than meets the eye.
'Viduthalai', which will be released in two parts, is based on Jeyamohan's short story 'Thunaivan'. The film, which is being produced by Elred Kumar under the brand RS Infotainment and distributed by Udhayanidhi Stalin's home banner Red Giant Pictures, is set to be released in theatres on March 31, this year.
