On August 3, actor and comedian Sunil Grover, who has won hearts with his iconic characters like 'Dr. Gulati' and 'Gutthi' on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ , celebrated his birthday yesterday. Regarded as one of the industry's finest comedians, Sunil has amused audiences with his impeccable performances. However, his journey to success was not without challenges. Surprisingly, the actor's first paycheck was a modest sum of only 500 rupees.
Born in a small village in Haryana on August 3, 1977, Sunil Grover's passion for movies started at a young age. Dreaming of becoming a movie star like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, Sunil pursued learning the tabla while in ninth grade, with aspirations of working in theater as he grew older. During an emotional interview, Sunil recalled the days of struggle he faced during the early stages of his career.
Upon moving to Mumbai to pursue theater after completing his Master's degree, Sunil confessed to indulging in a carefree lifestyle filled with partying. However, as job opportunities dwindled, he realized he couldn't give up on his ambitions. Sunil found a chance in the television industry, but due to scheduling conflicts, he was replaced. He said, "Even after work, I used to earn barely 500 rupees. But I used to believe that I would undoubtedly be successful."
Determined to make his mark, he delved into voice-over work on the radio. His show quickly gained popularity, broadcasting from Delhi and eventually reaching audiences nationwide. Sharing a story about radio, he said, "I recall once, while I was performing a live stage show, people started shouting and hooting for me. I assumed they were chanting for someone else, but it was just me. I was astonished that it was all for me. All of this takes several years for a boy like me to reach there."
Sunil Grover embarked on a journey of various radio and TV jobs, leading him to the role of 'Gutthi,' a character that brought him recognition in every household. Today, as he celebrates his 46th birthday, he reminisces about his struggles and the determination that led him to achieve the status of one of India's most loved comedians.
