The character Komolika, played by TV actress Urvashi Dholakia in Ekta Kapoor's mega-hit Indian soap opera Kasautii Zindagi Kay (2001), is considered iconic to this day. The actress did an excellent job of keeping every Indian household hooked to the television to watch what drama the vamp would create. After playing the villainous Komolika, the actress revealed that no one wanted to be near her.
In an interview, Urvashi spoke about how people connected her to Komolika. She said, “By the time they started growing up (her kids), and I returned to work, I got such a character ki koi paas mein nahi bhatka tha (nobody dared to step near me). I didn’t get any offers from anyone after playing that character (referring to Komolika). They all kept relating me to that character but I was fine with it.”
For the unaware, Urvashi gave birth to twin boys Sagar and Kshitij at the age of 17 and went back to work when her two sons grew older. She raised them as a single mother after splitting up with her husband after a year and a half of marriage.
Apart from Urvashi, Kasautii Zindagi Kay also starred Shweta Tiwari, Cezanne Khan, and Ronit Roy and aired from October 29, 2001, to February 28, 2008.
