Known for projects like Scam 1992 (2020), Shahid (2012) and Aligarh (2015), director Hansal Mehta is now preparing to pour life into Jigna Vora’s book Behind The Bars In Byculla: My Days in Prison. The series will be produced for Netflix.
Jigna Vora’s book tells the story of a crime reporter, Jagruti Pathak, who is charged with the murder of a fellow colleague, Jaideb Sen, and is sent to jail with the criminals she once covered.
The series has begun shooting under the banner of Matchbox Shorts and will stream on Netflix. Announcing the news on Twitter, Mehta wrote, “Fresh off the press and soon to be streaming on Netflix, presenting you, Scoop.”
Mehta also shared the poster for the series, which is designed as a book with newspaper wrapping and blood stains. The series title is written in bold, which is also covered in blood.
Talking about how he decided to bring the book to life, Meheta said, "Great stories can only benefit from a service that can make them reach a wider audience. Scoop is that kind of a story, and with Netflix, we will be able to take it to audiences across the globe. With my co-creator, Mrunmayee Lagoo, and producers, Matchbox Shots, I am seeking to dive deep into a tale of our mediatised times and the human cost of stories that we consume on a daily basis.”
