It's possible that the second season of the well-liked Netflix series Wednesday will shift to another streaming platform. The creepy Netflix original series, which launched on November 16 of last year, stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams. But Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer is the legitimate owner of the rights to the series (MGM).
THE NEW SEASON OF WEDNESDAY MAY AIR ON AMAZON?
Following the completion of the $8.5 billion merger between Amazon and MGM last year, the new season of the show may premiere on Amazon's streaming service Prime Video. Netflix still has to announce Wednesday's second season renewal, but the show's widespread popularity ensures its return.
According to a story in The Independent, Netflix may need to work out an agreement with Amazon in order to broadcast season two. However, it has not yet been officially announced that the series would leave Netflix. Deadline, a trade publication, has previously claimed that Amazon does not intend to make all MGM movies exclusively available through Prime Video.
JENNA ORTEGA’S STATEMENT
The series' creators have reportedly already started looking at potential filming locations and developing scenarios for the upcoming season. The lead, Jenna, has already stated her expectations for Wednesday and the upcoming season. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she stated, "She could be darker, if you ask me. I want her to stop playing things so safe and get more involved in the details. Because she says a lot about protecting the school and doing anything, but in my opinion, her primary motivation in dealing with the monster is a sense of competitiveness. 'Man, how's this guy doing this?' sort of feeling"
ABOUT WEDNESDAY AND CAST OF THE SERIES
Wednesday is presently the second-most watched English-language Netflix series. With more than 400 million hours seen in one week, it outperformed Stranger Things as the English-language series with the most weekly viewers. In just three weeks after its premiere, the spin-off series has had over 1.02 billion cumulative hours viewed, with more than 150 million households streaming the programme. It now joins Stranger Things Season 4 and Squid Game in having crossed one billion hours.
In addition to Jenna, Wednesday also features Christina Ricci, Luis Guzmán, Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Emma Myers, and Fred Armisen.
On Wednesday, Jenna received nominations for the forthcoming 80th Golden Globe Awards in two categories, including Best Television Series (Comedy) and Best Actress.
