At first, Anil Kapoor wasn't sure if he wanted to play Shailendra Rungta, the bad guy in the crime action show ‘The Night Manager’. But his role as the classy and stylish bad guy turned out to be one of the show's best, with both viewers and reviewers praising him for it.

The show's creator, Sandeep Modi, said that Kapoor was at first hesitant to play a character with bad traits because he was known for playing over-the-top heroes. Kapoor didn't want to do it because he was afraid of changing his image. But he made the part his own once he got into it and became the character. He brought small details and ideas to the table, and he even helped name one of the characters. Shailendra Rungta became a hero-like monster thanks to Anil Kapoor's performance.
Sandeep Modi is known for his big stories and risky ways of telling them in shows like ‘Aarya’ and ‘The Lottery’. In ‘The Night Manager’, he used similar techniques. The Indian version of the British crime thriller series, which was based on an English novel, was praised for its production values, character development, themes, screenplay, performances, and ability to capture the essence of the original show while adapting it for an Indian audience.
