Varun Dhawan to play LEAD in Indian version of The Russo Brothers series 'Citadel'; Read more!

The mega-budget action spy series Citadel's Indian instalment has a star, according to the Russo brothers. The Russos announced Tuesday that Bollywood superstar Varun Dhawan will head the cast of the Indian series produced by AGBO for Amazon Prime Video.

The still-untitled Indian project is based in the Russo brothers' "Citadel universe," a vast series franchise that encompasses projects in several nations and connects them all with a common plot. The franchise's main American component is apparently already one of the most expensive TV shows ever made. The famed creative team Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK will direct the Bollywood series, which will begin production in 2023. (known as Raj & DK).

VARUN DHAWAN

Dilwale, Dishoom, Badlapur, October, and most recently, the blockbuster family comedy Jugjugg Jeeyo from 2022 are just a few of the many films Dhawan, a prolific talent, has worked on. His father is veteran director David Dhawan. His first streaming series will be The Citadel undertaking.

According to Aparna Purohit, head of India originals at Prime Video, "The Indian chapter of the distinctive and sparkling Citadel universe is among our most exciting projects, and working with the Russo Brothers' AGBO has certainly been a fascinating experience. We are extremely proud to have Varun make his streaming debut and serve as the star of this Prime Video series.”

The Russo brothers, best known for their directing work on Marvel blockbusters, co-founded AGBO in 2017. The banner’s credits include the Netflix action blockbusters Extraction and The Gray Man, and this year’s hit independent picture Everything Everywhere All at Once.

"We've worked extremely hard partnering with the other international teams to provide a unique interwoven universe to our audiences," Raj & DK further stated in a statement.

As part of their production company D2R Films, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK will also act as executive producers. Production on the Indian Original and all other series set in the global Citadel universe is overseen by AGBO's Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, and Weil. The show is produced by D2R Films and Amazon Studios. Josh Applebaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg are the executive producers of Midnight Radio on the unnamed Indian Original and other programmes in the global Citadel universe.
