As per latest reports, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has roped in veteran actress Anju Mahendru for a special role in his upcoming webseries 'Heeramandi'.
A source close to the project has revealed that the role to be played by Anju has been specially written by Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself. Not only this, her look and costumes have also been conceptualised by the filmmaker.
Anju Mahendru will play the head courtesan in 'Heeramandi'
From what we hear, Anju Mahendru will play the head courtesan of the Kotha. Noteworthy, the webseries features Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Aditi Rao Hydari as courtesans or tawaifs who reside in pre-1947 Lahore.
Earlier, there were reports claiming that Mumtaz and Shabana Azmi will be a part of Heeramandi. Unfortunately, they couldn't come onboard and hence Sanjay Leela Bhansali decided to scrap out their roles from the script.
