Ashutosh Gowariker Biography
Ashutosh Gowariker is one of the ace directors of the Bollywood. He has given the legends to the Bollywood like 'Lagaan', 'Swades' and 'Jodha Akbar'. The talented director has created his niche in the Hindi film Industry. He has won nominations for the prestigious Academy Awards, the European Film Awards etc. He has received the highest-status National Film Award and five Filmfare Awards. He has also won seven international film festival awards. Ashutosh was born on 15th February 1964 in Mumbai. His father is Ashok Gowariker and mother is Kishori Gowariker. He is married to Sunita Gowariker and the couple has two sons Vishwang and Konark.
Ashutosh commenced his career as an actor with Ketan Mehta's film 'Holi'. After that he did many Marathi movies like 'Vajeer', 'Ek ratra Mantarleli' etc. He acted in various TV serials like 'CID' ,'Circus' etc. He appeared in the films like 'Chamatkaar' ,'Naam' and 'Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa'. His directorial debut was 'Pehla Nasha' in 1993. His next release was 'Baazi' in 1995 starring Aamir Khan and Mamta Kulkarni. The movie was an average at the box office. In 2001, Ashutosh wrote and directed the legend 'Lagaan' produced by Aamir Khan and starring Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh. The movie was a blockbuster and got lots of accolades. It won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The film was a winner at many film festivals on the international level. It got a nomination at the prestigious Academy Awards for the best foreign language film.
He next directed Shah Rukh Khan starer 'Swades' in 2004 which got a lot of critical acclaim on the domestic as well as international level. He then directed a historical epic 'Jodha Akbar' starring Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan. The film released in 2008 and got rave reviews from one and all. The film won many awards on the international level.
Ashutosh then made a rom com 'What's Your Raashee? 'starring Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra in 12 different roles. The film released in 2009 and was declared as a flop. His next release was regarding the famous Chittagong uprising named as 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey' in 2010. The film had Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone. The film bombed at the box office and got negative reviews from the critics as well.
Ashutosh is considered as an actor's director. He manages to get the best from his actors.
