‘GOT’ managed to bring George RR Martin's vision to life when it first aired in 2011, and the world of dragons and white-walkers made for an enticing watch for its large fan following. While the last season was contentious, the fantasy delivered unparalleled recognition to its star cast, which included Jason Momoa, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Alfie Allen, and Kristin Nairn, among others.

‘Game of Thrones’ has 73 episodes spread across eight seasons, bringing together as many as 566 characters. According to Finance Monthly, HBO spent an estimated $1.5 billion on Game of Thrones. The revenues were increasing season after season, so it was clearly a worthwhile investment.

HBO subscribers alone generated $3.1 billion in revenue for ‘Game of Thrones.’ This is more than double the cost, making it an extremely lucrative trip.

Because of the film's popularity, HBO began production on the prequel, ‘House Of The Dragon.’ Season 1 was launched in 2022 with a $200 million budget. While the exact revenues are unknown, the celebrity cast, which included Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, and others, is claimed to have made more money than their predecessors. Season 2 filming is now underway.
