Mohanlal is unquestionably one of the most important figures in Indian cinema, and his performances have captivated audiences for almost 45 years. It was stated in 2019 that the renowned actor is preparing to make his directorial debut with the film ‘Barroz’.
At the same time, it was reported that ‘Barroz’ will be based on Jijo Punnoose's novel Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure. The filmmakers have now confirmed that the film will be released in theatres on March 28, 2024.

Mohanlal, the film's director, announced the news on his social media account. The Lucifer star tweeted on X, “Here’s an official announcement to mark your calendars - “Barroz” is coming to cinemas on 28th March 2024! Don’t miss out on what’s next.”

What we Know about ‘Barroz’:
‘Barroz’ is billed as a fantasy film written by Jijo Punnoose, who also penned the novel from which the film is derived. Mohanlal also plays the titular character in the film, in addition to directing it. In addition, notable actors such as Guru Somasundaram, Padmavati Rao, Komal Sharma, Cesar Lorente, and others play pivotal parts in the film.
Antony Perumbavoor produced the film through his company Aashirvad Cinemas. Mark Kilian composed the music for the film. It was also disclosed in 2019 that the producers had engaged Lydian Nadhaswaram, a 13-year-old child prodigy, to assist with the scores. The camera was operated by famous cinematographer Santhosh Sivan, while the editing was done by B. Ajithkumar, who is known for films such as ‘Moothon,’ ‘Kadaisi Vivasayi’, ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum,’ and others.

Mohanlal will next be featured in Jeethu Joseph's courtroom drama ‘Neru’. Priyamani, Siddique, Jagadish, and others play important parts in the film. He is also filming on the long-awaited sequel to the 2019 film ‘Lucifer’, dubbed ‘L2: Empuraan’, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. Mohanlal also appears in ‘Vrushabham’, a pan-Indian film produced by Ekta Kapoor. The ‘Bro Daddy’ actor is also set to appear in Lijo Jose Pellissery's forthcoming film ‘Malaikottai Vaaliban’, which is set to be released on January 25, 2019.
